Data Sources & Attribution

TrueTopo combines our own hosted assets and software with public and third-party map layers, tiles, and APIs. Your subscription pays for access to the TrueTopo application and our infrastructure; it does not transfer ownership of third-party raster tiles or government datasets.
How attribution works in the app
The map attribution bar (and basemap picker credits) shows the copyright and attribution required for the active basemap and, where applicable, compare layers. You must not remove or obscure these notices. Specific requirements may apply (for example, OpenStreetMap contributors, Copernicus Sentinel, Esri, or CARTO).
Examples of source categories
Depending on the layer or basemap you enable, the Service may draw from categories such as:
- United States federal agencies — e.g., USGS (National Map, topo, imagery), NASA (GIBS), NOAA (nautical charts), and other public feeds.
- State of Alaska — e.g., Alaska DNR AHRI imagery and ArcGIS services where configured.
- Commercial / community map providers — e.g., Esri ArcGIS Online basemaps, CARTO raster tiles, OpenStreetMap-based tiles.
- Copernicus / Sentinel — where we host or display Sentinel-class composites, products carry attribution such as modified Copernicus Sentinel data with the year, per program rules.
- International open data — e.g., EMODnet bathymetry for marine context layers.
- Live APIs & Public GIS Feeds — BLM MLRS (Mining Land Relationship System), Alaska DNR LAS (Land Administration System), USGS river gauges, and other public endpoints for read-only active claim boundaries, township grids, parcels, and dynamic feeds; subject to each provider’s availability and terms.
