1. Agreement

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of TrueTopo websites, applications, APIs, and related services (collectively, the “Service”) operated by FOUR MEDIA GROUP LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

TrueTopo provides geospatial software, map interfaces, layers, and tools for informational and planning purposes in Alaska and related regions. The Service may include free features and paid subscriptions (e.g., TrueTopo Pro and optional kits). We may change, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice for material changes where practicable.

3. Eligibility & accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. You may need an account (for example, through our identity provider) to access certain features. You are responsible for your account credentials and for activity under your account. Notify us promptly at legal@truetopo.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

4. Fees & subscriptions

Paid features are billed through our payment processor (Stripe). By purchasing a subscription, you authorize us and Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel in accordance with Stripe’s and our billing flows. Fees are for access to the TrueTopo Service (software, hosting, tools, and our proprietary or compiled offerings)—not for ownership of raw third-party map tiles or government datasets.

Taxes may apply where required. Subscription terms, renewal, and cancellation are presented at checkout and in your billing portal. If you cancel, you may retain access until the end of the current billing period unless stated otherwise.

5. Third-party map data, basemaps, and APIs

The Service displays map tiles, imagery, and layers from many independent providers (including, for example, US federal and state agencies, Esri, OpenStreetMap contributors, CARTO, NASA, NOAA, Copernicus Sentinel, and others). That material is subject to the licenses and terms of use of each provider—not TrueTopo’s sale of the underlying data.

• Attribution. You must not remove or obscure attribution shown in the Service (including the map attribution control). Provider-specific requirements may apply.
• No scraping or bulk redistribution. You may not use the Service to harvest, cache at scale, or redistribute third-party tiles or layers in violation of those providers’ terms or applicable law.
• No agency endorsement. Display of government or third-party data does not imply endorsement of TrueTopo by those entities. See also our Geospatial Data Disclaimer and Data Sources & Attribution overview.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of export, sanctions, or privacy laws.
• Attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our systems without authorization.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract our proprietary compiled vector tiles, PMTiles, intelligence layers, or trade secrets except as permitted by law.
• Misrepresent your identity, interfere with other users, or overload the Service (including excessive automated requests).

7. Intellectual property

TrueTopo’s name, logos, UI, and original software are protected by intellectual property laws. Except for rights expressly granted in these Terms, we reserve all rights. Public-domain or third-party source data remains subject to its upstream providers; TrueTopo’s compilation, styling, derivative intelligence, and hosted tile products are proprietary unless we state otherwise.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT MAP DATA IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR CURRENT.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TRUETOPO AND ITS SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR RELIANCE ON MAP CONTENT. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100), EXCEPT WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.

10. Indemnity

You will defend and indemnify TrueTopo and its affiliates, officers, and employees against any third-party claim or liability arising from your misuse of the Service, violation of these Terms, or violation of third-party rights—except to the extent caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the Service if you materially breach these Terms or if required to comply with law. You may stop using the Service at any time. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including IP, disclaimers, limitations, indemnity, and governing law) will survive termination.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may modify these Terms. We will post the updated Terms on this page and revise the “Last Updated” date. For material changes, we will provide notice through the Service or by email where appropriate. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alaska, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where preempted by U.S. federal law. You agree that courts in Alaska have personal jurisdiction for disputes arising from these Terms or the Service, unless a different mandatory forum applies under law.
